Andrea Trisdale – Be The Match

Andrea Trisdale is a realtor who works at Urban Squared Realty in Austin, Texas. She studied at the Austin Institute of Real Estate and is a member of the Austin Board of Realtors.

But her true passion in life is creating art. “Everyone can use a little beauty and love in their life,” she says, “and I try to express that in my art.” She markets her work through her own business, Art by Ande.

Rainy Day Bliss

Andrea Trisdale is also passionate about bone marrow donation. As she knows, bone marrow transplants provide hope to people who are facing leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and other life-threatening conditions. “I am a registered bone marrow donor with Be the Match organization, which is very close to my heart,” she says. “I encourage others to register as well… they could one day save someone‚Äôs life.”

Be the Match is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, and it manages the largest bone marrow registry in the world. Andrea Trisdale believes that it is hard to overstate the importance of bone marrow transplants: seventy percent of people who are in need of one do not have a matching donor in their family.

As Andrea Trisdale knows, the purpose of a bone marrow transplant in someone diagnosed with leukemia is to replenish the patient with healthy cells and bone marrow, which can be damaged or killed by high doses of the chemotherapy and radiation often used to treat the patient. After a successful bone marrow transplant, the body beings producing new blood cells. In some cases the new blood cells will even attack and destroy those cancer cells that survived the radiation or chemo, although when that happens it is a bonus.
